Dry Skin?

I initially spent about four months in the fall of 2000, researching soap and fragrances at the MSU library and on the Internet before I even began to develop my formula for BobSkinSoap.  I have through the years since then just perfected my BOBSKINSOAP to the point where it is today.

As my body grew "more mature" (older), I found that Commercial soaps and shampoos seemed to dry my skin and scalp out and make me itchy and flaky.   The more I read, the more I learned about the many reasons Commercial soap dries our skin.   One of the reasons is that the moisturizing agent in soap has been removed.   Glycerin is naturally occurring in soap but is completely removed from most commercial bars mainly due to the fact that Glycerin is more valuable than the soap, so it is taken outand sold separately.   Glycerin is a Humectants, which means it attracts moisture to your skin.  Extra Glycerin is added to my soaps eventhough it is always present in handmade soaps.   Glycerin is a natural emollient (soothing, softening effect) that is gentle to the skin.   Some of the best emollients are cocoa butter, Shea butter, jojoba oil, beeswax, milk and milk solids, oatmeal and honey -- all are in BobSkinSOAPTM.

Extra Virgin Olive oil, jojoba oil, kukui nut oil, and Shea butter moisturize because they attract external moisture and hold it close to the skin, forming a breathable film -- all are in BobSkinSOAPTM.   They do not block the natural functions of the skin such as sweating, releasing sebum (an oily secretion of the sebaceous gland) and shedding dead skin, while performing their own function.

Apricot kernel oil is said to rejuvenate and repair skin and is good for aged and sensitive skin; it's in BobSkinSOAPTM.   Avocado oil is oneof the most penetrating oils known and has a high vitamin content with skin healing properties, also in BobSkinSOAPTM.   Castor oil is a humectants, which means it attracts moisture to your skin but must be limited in the amount used in soap. Coconut oil will dry skin if too much is used, but is moisturizing if used in small amounts.   I always use a little less than the maximum allowable amount of coconut oil that is good for your skin, just to be safe, in BobSkinSOAPTM.

Jojoba oil is technically a wax and is good for conditioning.   Kukui nut oil is good for skin conditioning and is used for sunburn and chapped skin.   It is high in linoleic and linolelic acids, which promote healthy skin.   Macadamia nut oil is good for skin conditioningand is penetrating with a velvety feel.   It has oleic (60%) and palmitoleic (20%); and is highly unsaturated and absorbed into skin.   It has 80% monounsaturated fatty acids and a higher percentage of palmitoleic acid than other vegetable oils and is very luxurious.   All are in BobSkinSOAPTM.

Palm oil gives you a hard bar of soap but can also be drying to skin if too much is used, but moisturizing if used in small amounts.  I always use less than the maximum allowable amount of palm oil in BobSkinSOAP.  Wheat germ oil and vitamin E oil are good skin conditioning oils -- they're in BobSkinSOAPTM.

I also put organic Honey in BobSkinSOAP.   Honey hydrates and soothes the skin.   Honey is also moisturizing and it inhibits the growth of bacteria.   All these ingredients are included in BobSkinSOAP.   I have kept bars for over 9 years (I have one bar from each of the first five batches I made) with no problems developing.

BobSkinSOAPTM is the only soap we use now.   My wife Ellen says It makes my skin feel like velvet.   That is how it makes her skin feel also. I am amazed at how smooth her skin feels since using BobSkinSoap.   I wash my hair with it (got rid of my dandruff and itching scalp problems) and shave with it so I am saving a lot of money by not buying any other products for my skin and hair.   I do not even use deodorant any more as the essential oils I use in BobSkinSoapTM makes my skin and hair smell very good. I only put in the ingredients that I have read are good for our skin.   I have purchased other crafted soaps during vacation travels thru the years and even though they are usually better than commercial soaps, have found most only have limited ingredients compared to BobSkinSoapTM.   I will try them for a few days but always return to BobSkinSoapTM as our skin starts to get that itchy tight feeling again.

My honey, Ellen, did not use my BobSkinSOAPTM on her hair at first (I am talking 9 years ago now) but ran out of her favorite shampoo one day and used BobSkinSoap.   Since that first time she tried BobSkinSoap on her hair, she has used nothing else.   She threw away all her conditioners and shampoos and will tell you that her hair feels and responds better than it ever has.   Then she tried shaving her legs with it and threw away all her shave cream.   Because of that, I tried shaving my face with it and now it's the only thing I will use to shave with.   BobSkinSoap is a "Do It All" soap.   You need nothing else!

Click the "Soap Facts" button on the left to read what I've learned about commercial soaps -- you'll be as surprised as I was.   As I read and learn more about skin conditioning and soap ingredients, I make small adjustments to BOBSKINSOAP.   I have also become amazed as I learned that what is being put into commercial soap and shampoo products are very damaging to skin and hair.

It takes  hundreds of CHEMICALS  just to make commercial soap and shampoo smell and feel the way we like them to, and to gooosh out of those squirt containers the way we like.   We want everything to be simple and easy, (like fast food and fast soap products) but in most (all) cases that is not good for you at all!   The damage to your skin and hair is very obvious over time.   Making BobSkinSoap is a lot of work for me, but I will never use anything else on my skin and hair !   And my wife would probably........well she will always want my BobSkinSoap!
